ESD

(ESD)

1987   >

A screen adaptation of the novels „Kwiat kalafiora” and „Ida Sierpniowa” from the iconic “Jeżycjada” series by Małgorzata Musierowicz. Loved by several generations of young readers, the series continues to this day.

Full of kindness and marked by subtle moralism, the story about universal values, coming of age and search of one’s identity will appeal mostly to teenagers.

The orderly universe of the Borejko family falls into pieces when the mother of four daughters (Gabrysia, Ida, Natalia and Patrycja) ends up in a hospital. The oldest of the four children, Gaba does her best to take over after her mother. She has to deal with domestic problems, lack of money, helpless father… and the feelings that she starts having against her will for the infamous heartthrob Janusz. Slightly younger Ida takes up occasional work, which enables her to help a couple of newly acquainted persons. She becomes more confident and successfully overcomes her many hang-ups. Despite difficult circumstances, the sisters try to stick to the principles of the ESD (Experimental Signals of Kindness) club, which they set up with friends in belief that kindness breeds kindness.
